Mr. Moses D. Cohen, 89, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, in the Desert Regional Medical Center, Palm Springs, CA, where he was visiting his son.
Moses was born on November 3, 1919, in Utica, the son of the late Jacob and Mary Cohen and was educated in Utica schools. On June 30, 1952, he married Gloria Gould in Brookline, MA. Mrs. Cohen passed away August 4, 1993.
For many years, Moses was employed with Chicago Markets, Utica. He was a former member of Temple Emanu-El and Temple Beth El and also member of Jonathan Lodge, #944 I.O.O.F. Moses took great pleasure in gardening, woodworking and working around the house. He was the type of person that no one had any negative words to say about him, he was a true Mench.
Moses is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Cohen of Utica, Alan and Deborah Cohen of Oneida, Jay Cohen of Utica, and Lee Cohen and his partner, Demetrio Chapa of Palm Springs, CA; his brother, Albert Cohen of Syosset, NY; his sister-in-law, Gertrude Cohen of Utica; his grandchildren, Andrew and Ryan; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Rhonda Cohen, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Max and Leni Cowen, Herman Cohen, Harry Cowen and Muriel Cohen.
His funeral will be 2 p.m., today, at Temple Emanu-El Temple Beth El, 2710 Genesee Street, with Rabbi Jeffrey Segall, officiating. Interment will be in the Jonathan Lodge Cemetery, Whitesboro. Shivah will be observed at the family home, 172 Ridge Road, Utica, 7-9 p.m., Saturday evening, 12-2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., Sunday, and 5-7 p.m., Monday. Contributions, in Mosess memory, may be offered to Temple Emanu-El Roof Fund and the American Heart Association.
