Edith Lorig, 89, formerly of the Utica area, died Thursday, February 26, at Sunrise Senior Living in Staten Island, NY. Born Edith Simon in Thalfang, Germany, on October 21, 1919, of Moritz and Johanette, she immigrated to New York City in 1938. She married Sally Lorig in New York City in 1943. Her first child, Ellen, was born in 1946 in New York City. Edith and her husband relocated to the Utica area in 1950, and their second child, Milton, was born in 1952. Edith was a homemaker par excellence, who was known by her family and friends as a superlative cook and baker. She was active in the Jewish community: a member of Temple Beth-El, Hadassah, and the Temples sisterhood. Everyone who came into contact with Edith loved her. Her husband of 41 years died in 1984. Surviving are her daughter, Ellen (husband, Milton) Jaffee of Staten Island, NY; son, Milton Lorig, of Oakland, CA; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday (today), March 2, at 2:00 p.m. from the Jacobson Pizer Funeral Home, at 1123 Court Street, in Utica, New York. Burial will be at Temple Beth-El Cemetery
