Phyllis Bernstein, 80, of Manlius and formerly of New Hartford, passed away peacefully, November 9, 2009, at Menorah Park, Syracuse, where she had been a resident.
She was born September 30, 1929, in Worcester, MA, the daughter of the late Reuben and Tillie Ostroff Handell. On June 14, 1959, Phyllis married Solomon Bernstein. Mr. Bernstein passed away August 24, 1992.
Prior to her retirement, Phyllis was employed with Key Bank in Utica. Phyllis was a former member of Temple Beth El and its Sisterhood. She was also a life member of Hadassah.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Marc Bernstein of University Heights, OH, and his fiance, Dr. Eileen Eisen-Cohen, and Gary and Dr. Rina Bernstein of Manlius; her brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Estelle Handell of Warren, RI, and Highland Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Sara, Zachary, Talya, Jocelyn and Justin Bernstein; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Tifereth Zvi Cemetery, Wood Road, Whitesboro, NY, with Rabbi Howard Matasar officiating. Shiva will be observed Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 PM and Thursday from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at the residence of Gary and Rina Bernstein, 8230 Meadowview Court, Manlius, NY.
