Anita W. Kaplan, 89, lifelong resident of Utica, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 25, 2014, in the Siegenthaler Center, New Hartford, with her loving sons at her side.
Anita was born on August 27, 1924, in Utica, the daughter of the late Abraham and Celia Rabinowitz Weiss. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On November 11, 1945, Anita married Alan J. Kaplan. Mr. Kaplan passed away October 30, 1987.
For many years, Anita enjoyed taking classes at the Munson Williams Proctor Institute, where she had an appreciation for the arts. Her greatest love was taking care of her family, and she took great pleasure in cooking.
She is survived by her sons, Richard E. Kaplan and David L. Kaplan, both of Utica; her sister, Shirley Cramer, of New Hartford; and several nieces and nephews, including Harold and Donna Cramer and Clifford and Ellen Cramer. Anita was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Bernice Weiss and Edward and Annabelle Weiss.
Her funeral service will be held privately by the family. Interment will be in House of Israel Cemetery, Whitesboro, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
