Leonard “Lenny” Levin, 87, of Syracuse and a former longtime resident of Herkimer and New Hartford, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, in Loretto Health and Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse, following a brief illness.
He was born on June 29, 1927, in Herkimer, the son of the late Samuel and Dora Sitrin Levin. Lenny was a graduate of Herkimer High School and attended Buffalo State University. In 1953, he married the former Helene Weinberger in New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Levin resided in Herkimer for many years until her passing on May 22, 1989. Lenny relocated to New Hartford before joining his daughter in Syracuse.
Lenny was the owner and operator of William’s Furniture Store, Herkimer, for over 50 years. He was a member of Temple Beth Joseph, Herkimer, and a member of the Moriah Lodge, F&AM. Lenny was also a member of several professional and furniture business associations throughout the years. He was an avid golfer and took pleasure in spending summers in Old Forge.
He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved spending time with his family and friends. Lenny had a great sense of humor and was always smiling. He will be dearly missed by the many who loved him.
His beloved daughters and son-in-law, Stacey Levin of Syracuse and Wendy and Jonathan Klein of North Easton, Massachusetts, and his grandchildren, Alex and Nina Klein, survive Lenny.
Lenny’s graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, in the Temple Beth Joseph Section of Oak Hill Cemetery, West German Street, Herkimer.
