Thomas E. Skopinsky, 72, of Oneida and longtime former resident of Knoxboro, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 6, 2015, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, Oneida.
He was born on July 31, 1942, in New Jersey, the son of the late Hyman and Beatrice Parker Skopinsky, and was educated in the Bronx. Tom served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
On December 7, 1963, he married the former Carol J. Davis in Knoxboro. The couple were longtime residents of Knoxboro until Mrs. Skopinsky passed away on July 14, 2005.
Prior to his retirement, Tom was employed with Elite Taxi, Rome. For many years, he was manager of Courtesy Taxi, Utica, and at one time worked for Spino Railroad. He was a member of the American Legion.
Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who took great pride in his family. He had a great passion for the Adirondacks, visiting Inlet on many occasions.
Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Peter Powell, of Vernon; his son, Joseph Skopinksy, of FL; his siblings, Bernard Skopinsky, of Rochester, Gustive Skopinsky, of Liverpool, Carolyn and Ward Hough, of Syracuse, Deborah Ernest, of FL, and Arthur and Diane Skopinsky, of Windam; his grandchildren, Peter, II, Mason, Joseph Thomas and Cody; his great-grandson, Malachai; his sister-in-law, Beverly DeRocco; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2015, from Jacobson-Pizer Funeral Chapel, Inc., 1123 Court at York Streets, Utica, with Rabbi Ronald Kopelman officiating.
Interment will be made in Crown Hill Cemetery, Kirkland.
Visitation will be held 12 p.m. (Noon) until the time of the service at the funeral home. -
